Vikings have 'reached out' to Drew Brees' agent

His arrival in Minnesota would nearly certainly make the Vikings the Super Bowl favorites and would give Brees a better chance at his second ring.

As of right now, fewer than seven hours remain until Brees officially can entertain, via agent Tom Condon, offers from other teams. It was highly expeected Brees was returning to New Orleans, but they have yet to sign an extension.

METAIRIE, La. - There is still no reason to fear that Drew Brees will suddenly reverse course and decide to leave the New Orleans Saints for a bigger offer elsewhere this week.

He called Brees "the single greatest motivation for me as a player" while talking about his tireless work ethic.

The New Orleans Saints haven't yet locked up free-agent QB Drew Brees, but they're working behind the scenes to bring back Brees' most unsafe pass catcher from 2011-14 for a second go-around.

Brees re-structured his contract to cut a cap hit in 2016 almost in half, pro-rating a signing bonus of $18 million over three years, starting in 2018.

The 39-year-old Brees has said many times he wants to finish his career with the Saints, but time is running out for the two sides to reach a deal. Minnesota offers one of the most complete rosters in the National Football League on both sides of the ball that just earned a berth in the NFC Championship game. He was named MVP when the Saints beat the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. The Vikings' Super Bowl window isn't going to stay open for more than a handful of years, no matter who is lining up behind center.

The Vikings aren't the only team that has checked with Brees and his agent regarding the future Hall of Famer's availability.

Day 1 of the "legal tampering" period has not disappointed.

If the Vikings pursue Brees too much and he ends up signing with New Orleans again, they may miss out on Kirk Cousins. If the Saints and Brees haven't agreed on a deal by Monday afternoon, it could get wild.
