200 million eggs recalled due to potential salmonella contamination

The Food and Drug Administration says 22 illnesses have been reported in connection to the eggs, so far. The company voluntarily recalled the eggs after an investigation of illnesses on the East Coast triggered an inspection of the facility. The plant number is P-105, with the Julian date range of 011 through 012 printed on either side of the carton or package.

Both Walmart and Food Lion stores were recipients of the eggs packaged as their store brands, along with a score of other packaging examples. The FDA has since inspected the farm. Healthy individuals can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The company issued a statement saying its farm in Hyde County has about three million egg-laying hens, produces about 2.3 million eggs a day and has a United States Department of Agriculture inspector on-site daily.

A full list of affected eggs is listed on the FDA's food recall website.

Florida is among the nine states with the potentially infected eggs, which are being recalled by Rose Acre Farms in Seymour, Ind.

More than 200 million eggs have been recalled because of potential salmonella contamination.

"The Hyde County farm has never before experienced a recall or serious safety violation", Rose Acre Farms said in an email. The recall is equivalent to nearly 10 days production at the farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day.

Those who purchased the potentially affected eggs are advised by the agency to return them to the point of goal for a full refund.

"The eggs that are in the stores today are safe", she said by phone. The eggs were sold under the brands Country Daybreak, Sunshine Farms, Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, Glenview and Great Value.
