First Alert Forecast: stormy finish to weekend

Accumulating snow is expected through the end of the weekend, with decreasing snowfall rates on Sunday afternoon as the weather system pulls to the east. Strong winds and a wintry mix of rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain are possible through the morning, transitioning into all snow later in the day. While a shower can't be ruled out, most of the day should be dry with a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Temperatures climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s with a gusty south-southwest breeze. Sunday night will be clear and chilly with lows in the lower 40s and possibly some upper 30s.

Conditions are forecast to turn milder again during the upcoming week. An isolated thunderstorm is not out of the question.

Sunday night's rain will continue into Monday when the winds will be southeast at 24 miles per hour though the highs will be warmer - about 56 - and the lows about 40.

We're watching a major storm system that's sparking a multi-state blizzard warning, stretching from Kansas to Minnesota. Strong winds aloft translating to the surface in downdrafts will bring the potential of damaging winds - hard to say if this will be sporadic or fairly widespread. Isolated weak tornadoes are also possible.

Some of the storms could bring some gusty winds, unsafe lightning and heavy rainfall. Everything looks to move out by sunrise on Monday, so this will not be a whole day event. Lingering showers will extend all the way into Sunday morning though. Winds will weaken late Monday night.* Location.Near mountain ridge tops and along desert mountain slopes into adjacent desert areas.* Impacts. The winds will make driving difficult.especially for motorists with high profile vehicles.

A pretty quiet week in store once we get through Monday. Highs will drop back middle 70s for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The high will stay near 70 with mostly sunny skies. We have a cold front pushing through that's going to bring some rain showers.
