Gmail's gorgeous web redesign adds a bunch of new features

This week, a brand new design was leaked by TechCrunch for the web version of Gmail, along with several new features including Smart Reply from the web client, the ability to snooze emails, and offline support.

Google is working on a big redesign for Gmail on the web, it confirmed this week.

There are many similarities between ProtonMail and the new Gmail design, but one of the main differences between the two services is how they handle the self-destructing emails.

"You can configure the expiration date so that your email disappears after 1 week, 1 month, multiple years, etc.", Tech Crunch writes. The compose window also switches to a blue color scheme, letting the user know they're not just sending a normal message.

The redesign also adds icons to the left of the various sections of Gmail, listed on the lefthand side of the page. Now, Google is giving us all a new Gmail design. Sending a confidential email to a non-Google address may not work, as it prompts the viewer to log into their Google account to access the private message. In addition to that, it will also let you secure emails by enabling password protection which will be automatically generated through SMS. In 2017, Gmail had 1.2 billion active worldwide users. As with all things, however, it seems they finally wore out their welcome and Google has decided that it was time to let them go.

When there is no internet connection, Google Go will retry failed search requests in the background and will notify the user when the search results have been retrieved.

When composing an email it appears users will be able to click a lock that prevents the contents of said communication being forwarded, copied, pasted, printed or downloaded.

End-to-end encryption is also not mentioned by Google anywhere. As The Verge notes, a Confidential email recipient would only need to take a screenshot of an email to avoid these safeguards entirely.

A particular bugbear is so-called bloatware - the pre-installed apps that many consumers don't want and never use but can't uninstall.
