Nashville Fire Department crews responded to a house fire on Leawood Drive.

Two dogs were also inside the home, and one of them died in the fire.

"Firefighters did an excellent job" limiting the fire damage to the upper floor, Galm said, but the house was left uninhabitable, with water damage throughout.

According to officials, crews were hampered by materials inside the home. The man's wife was found to have been visiting with her adult daughter. While the fire was quickly under control, some hotspots remained.

Fire officials say no one was hurt, and the fire was contained to the kitchen.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross will assist the family with temporary shelter.

The name of the victim has not been released.
