Ian Somerhalder to headline vampire novel adaptation 'V-Wars' for Netflix

The Vampire Diaries alum is quenching his blood thirst and getting back in the vampire game with a new Netflix series, V-Wars.

V-Wars revolves around Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder), who enters a world of horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. While Luther looks for answers about the plague affecting the world, Michael will become a leader of the underground vampire movement.

It is unclear when the show will air, but news of the actor's casting comes over a year after he ended his eight-year run on The Vampire Diaries in March 2017.

Netflix has handed out a 10-episode, straight to series order for V-Wars, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

No word yet on when Somerhalder's series will hit the 'Flix, but we're readying our wooden stakes just in case. Three more volumes of prose have followed, along with an IDW comic book series co-created by Maberry. This disease slowly begins to spread through humankind, and society begins to splinter into the ranks of those who are human and those who are vampires.

Brad Turner will direct the pilot episode, with William Laurin and Glenn Davis acting as showrunners.

Since leaving The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, have welcomed their first child together, daughter Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder. He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn.

According to an April 16 report by TVLine, Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel series. The genre drama joins a roster of Marvel fare including the recently renewed Jessica Jones and gives the streamer a series vampire drama as The CW is prepping the final season of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, while working on yet another offshoot from the franchise.
