Iran condemns overnight missile attacks on Syria

"The Syrian regime, which has been tyrannising its own people for more than seven years, be it with conventional or chemical weapons, has a proven track record of crimes against humanity and war crimes", the ministry said.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also lashed out at the Western states that had conducted a joint massive missile strike on targets in Syria and warned of "regional consequences".

Russian Federation has requested a UN Security Council meeting over the recent airstrikes which targeted three chemical weapons research and production facilities in Syria during the early hours of Saturday.

It was the first time in 30 years that an Israeli jet was lost in a combat situation and led to an extensive retaliation by Israel with additional strikes against both the Syrian missile batteries and Iranian military targets in the war-torn country. "These are not the actions of a man; they are crimes of a monster instead", Trump said.

Israeli planes then struck an Iranian installation in Syria from which, the IDF explained, the unmanned aircraft had been operated. A statement published by the official news agency expressed support for strikes to stop attacks by the Syrian regime against civilians.

Pentagon officials said the attacks targeted the heart of Assad's programs to develop and produce chemical weapons. British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron said the United Kingdom and France had joined in the attack, Reuters reported.

"They (the US and its allies) will not gain from their raid on Syria, as they did not benefit from their crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria over the past years", he added.

Damascus is seen as the US launches an attack on Syria targeting different parts of the capital early Saturday, April 14, 2018.

He says the "very much aware of one of the chemical agents used".

Analyst Hossein Sheikholeslam, a former Iranian ambassador to Damascus, told state television the attacks would help unite Syrians behind the government.

President Donald Trump is set to address the nation Friday night amid anticipation of a retaliatory strike for an apparent Syrian chemical weapon attack last week.

Johnson said: "The world is united in its disgust for any use of chemical weapons, but especially against civilians".

"The American attack is an important signal to the axis of evil - Iran, Syria and Hezbollah", Gallant said.

"The attack this morning against Syria is a crime", he said.

The Assad regime moved its aircraft and some military equipment inside Russian bases for protection, but what about the Iranians?

Meanwhile, May said the missile strike, created to minimise civilian casualties, was aimed at deterring further use of chemical weapons and was not an attempt to topple the Syrian government.

"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".
