Motherboard makers announce their own AM4 X470 motherboards

The release date for X470 motherboards is mostly set for April 18th so it would be easy to get them with the launched 2nd-generation Ryzen 2000-series CPUs, the Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 7 2700, Ryzen 5 2600X and the Ryzen 5 2600.

AMD announced that pre-orders have begun worldwide for its 2nd generation AMD Ryzen desktop processors, which offer disruptive levels of compute performance at each of four price points. Pre-orders for the new Ryzens will be available starting today and will make their official retail at physical stores on April 19. "Second generation Ryzen desktop processors take everything that made the original Ryzen so groundbreaking and makes it better - great performance combined with advanced technology to deliver an awesome experience for the most demanding users", said Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Group, AMD. It isn't based on an entirely new architecture-AMD says the update is more like "Zen-plus" instead of, say, "Zen 2.0". It has 20MB "Smart Prefetch Cache", which is 4MB L2 cache and 16MB L3 cache. The AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU PIB includes the new Wraith Prism cooler, which offers improved thermal performance over the Wraith Max, a more compatible fan profile, and enhanced lighting capabilities with per-RGB controls. It's priced at $329.

The Ryzen 7 2700 features 8 cores and 16 threads as well.

Back at CES 2018, AMD stated that the 2nd Gen Ryzen processors will have lower power consumption despite being clocked at slightly higher speed than their predecessors alongside couple of other cache, and latency improvements. Also with a new CPU, comes a new chipset, the AMD X470, which utilizes socket AM4.

Ryzen 5 2600 will feature 6 cores / 12 threads, with a clock speed of 3.9/3.4 Ghz (boost/base) and 19MB of Smart Prefetch Cache. It comes with the basic Wraith Stealth cooler and is priced at $199. Other than enabling new motherboard designs, perhaps the most intriguing feature of the X470 is AMD's new StoreMI technology, which lets you combine multiple SSDs and conventional hard drives into a single virtual volume and automatically assign files based on their storage speed requirements. Both Biostar's new motherboards are a part of the Racing series, so the ATX X470GT8 and the mini-ITX X470GTN come with all the usual features expected from the new AMD X470 chipset. Expect full backwards compatibility between the new CPUs and X370 boards released past year, save for the UEFI updates that will likely be required. We're not overly fond of manufacturers offering pre-orders before revealing performance numbers, as with the Threadripper launch past year, however we can at least discuss the details of each part.
