Roy sparkles as DD snap losing streak

Mumbai: Owing to an extremely explosive start by openers Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis, Mumbai Indians (MI) piled up a big score of 194/7 against Delhi Daredevils (DD) after being put in to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday. Having lost both their matches to King XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, it was crucial to win their 3rd match.

Average total for the teams batting first at this venue is 165 and the corresponding for the same while batting second is 166.

The Delhi Daredevils faced off against the Mumbai Indians this afternoon.

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, captain of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils. He however, missed the next four deliveries making it a one-run, one-ball affair.

The Indians began the competition with a pair of desperately tight reverses at the hands of Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, before another followed here as debutant Jason Roy inspired the visitors with an outstanding unbeaten 91 at Wankhede Stadium.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik was not happy with his batsman. The bowling, in comparison, has shown improvement.

This annual feature had started in a small way by bringing in 300-400 school children in 2010 and over the last two seasons had swelled to around 18,000. Had Mustafizur Rahman caught two chances at short third man off Shreyas Iyer in the 17th over, the result might have been different, because with 16 required off 12 balls, Bumrah sent down an excellent 19th over that cost just five. Interestingly, almost every match had both innings run till the final over.

Gambhir, who was associated with KKR since 2011, has better knowledge of the conditions and he will be keen to make a point against his former franchise, who did not retain him this year. Among the bowlers, rookie leg spinner Mayank Markande has been brilliant in the two games. And for good reason too. Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was horribly inaccurate and did not flight the ball, while Shami and Dan Christian bowled lengths that allowed the batsmen room.

Returning to action after a one-match injury lay-off, Bhuvneshwar once again shone at the death, claiming 3/26 as KKR's rejigged batting order looked in a complete disarray. "The whole process will last till 1 or 2 am", said an MI spokesperson.

"They really bowled some good slower ones".

Yadav justified his elevation to opener over captain Rohit Sharma by the century stand with Lewis. I told them I don't mind batting anywhere as I am flexible, so they said number 3 is the position where I'll be batting. When you're on the field it is instinctive because things move very quickly. Can you predict the Game? The cheapest over in the Powerplay cost 10 runs as Mumbai racked up - their fastest IPL fifty in 3.4 0vers. Their win percentage in 37 early matches is a poor 35.14, with success in just 13 games.
