Russian Federation says Trump invited Putin to United States during phone call

Lavrov went on to lament that Western leaders misinterpreted Russia's previous blustery threats as a vow to make war against the USA and Europe if "just one missile flew over Syrian territory from the coalition forces".

Moscow had warned the US before the strike that it could hit back if the USA actions jeopardize Russian servicemen in Syria, and the allies had given Russia an advance warning to make sure no Russians were in the line of fire.

"They were informed of where our "red lines" were, including the red lines located on the territory, geographically".

"We promised not to do it around a decade ago at the request of our partners, and we took into consideration their argument that this would destabilize the situation, despite this [S-300] being a purely defensive system", said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday. "The results have shown that they haven't crossed those lines".

Russia will soon present evidence that the Syrian air defense forces shot down more than half of the missiles fired in the recent USA -led strikes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

Trump proposed a meeting with Putin at the White House in a phone conversation on March 20, Lavrov recalled in an interview with Today published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, adding that Moscow hopes Trump will give specifics on his invitation. Contrary to Lavrov's assertions, sources within the US government said on Wednesday that Syria was only able to launch two interceptor missiles while the coalition strikes were in progress, and neither of them found a target. Syria has rejected any role in the alleged, which is yet to be investigated.

Further stoking tensions was the purported chemical attack in Douma on April 7.

He asked the United States and its allies to prove that their all missiles hit the targets. The vast majority of the ineffectual air defense fire put up by the Syrians occurred after the US strike was over.

"Speaking about the risk of a military confrontation, I feel absolutely confident in assuming that the militaries will not allow this, and of course neither will President Putin or President Trump".

Lavrov, who said Russian Federation will soon offer evidence to back up its claims, added that Moscow may reconsider a pledge it gave a decade ago not to provide Syria with sophisticated long-range S-300 missiles in light of the strikes.

Elsewhere in his remarks Lavrov said that prior to the tripartite Western airstrikes on Syrian targets, Russian Federation had cautioned the US-led coalition that crossing certain "red lines" on the ground in Syria would prompt retaliation.

"Afterwards there were contacts at the level of military leaderships and generals, between our representatives and the United States coalition command".
