SUNY Student Assembly responds to BU stabbing

This is the second student death at Binghamton in just over a month.

All classes at Binghamton University are canceled Monday, April 16 following the incident.

A 19-year-old freshman was fatally stabbed on Binghamton University campus and his killer remained at large Monday. The cancellation announcement appeared on the school's website at 8:00 this morning. Souza's family was notified and requested privacy, according to the university.

According to university officials, the suspect fled Windham Hall, a university dorm, after the 10:30 p.m. stabbing.

Investigators from multiple agencies interviewed people throughout the night, and determined the stabbing was not a random act. The suspect was "described as a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark Puma hooded sweatshirt", according to the university, and he "remains at large". Haley Anderson, 22, was a nursing student who was strangled to death at an off-campus residence on March 9, Pix11 News reported. Employee Assistance Program staff are available to provide support to faculty and staff dealing with this loss.

A fellow Binghamton nursing student, 22-year-old Orlando Tercero, was arrested four days later in Nicaragua and charged with her murder.
