SUV that plunged into California river found, 2 bodies in it

The bodies of two adults and one child of a family missing for about two weeks after leaving Portland that were found in the Eel River in northern California have been positively identified by search personnel. The Thottapilly family was on a road trip from OR to San Jose when their SUV plunged into the Eel River in Northern California. The search continues for the body of the family's 12-year-old boy.

Searchers located the vehicle Sunday in the Eel River and recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, the Mendocino County sheriff's office said in a statement.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office says that around 4 p.m. Monday, searchers found the body of a boy submerged in the Eel River about 6 miles downstream from where the SUV crashed.

The bodies of his father and 9-year-old sister were found inside the submerged auto on Sunday and his mother's body was found last Friday.

The Thottapilly family, from Santa Clarita, disappeared in early April while driving in a Honda Pilot through the Redwood Coast Highway on vacation, officials said.

On Friday, the body of his wife, 38-year old Soumya Thottapilly was found nearby on a riverbank.

The crash site is about 200 miles (322 kilometers) northwest of San Jose.

About 70 searchers combed the area of the crash Sunday, including more than 20 crew members searching the water with Jet Skis, boats and kayaks, the office said. In that case, Jennifer and Sarah Hart and three of their six children were found dead at the scene and three other children remain missing.

Five bodies were found March 26 near Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect. A body was pulled from the surf April 7 but has not been identified.
