Titles available for free include The Avengers, Doctor Who, Transformers, DC Super Hero girls and a spin-off story from video game Overwatch. The Ruth Holley Library will show the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" from 2 to 4 p.m., and at the Monument Library you can make Perler Bead superhero keychains from 1 to 2 p.m.

Participating Free Comic Book Day retailers generally allow one pick of a free comic book with no purchase necessary.

There will be loads of free comics to give away as well as awesome specials on single-issue comics. The shop will also host an autograph signing from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. featuring DC Comics artist Tom Derenick, whose recent credits include issues of "Suicide Squad" and 'Green Lantern, ' as well as the tie-in comic for new feature film 'Rampage'.

At 9 a.m. registration for free comics and other prizes will begin.

"I'm from a pretty bad area in NY, so his struggles and how he turned out - wouldn't say it's relatable, I don't go around beating people into a pulp - but I get it", Hussain said. This year marks the 17th annual event that promotes literacy through the art of comics.

"Children can count reading comic books towards their reading hours for the program", she said. "Some companies charge for those things, but instead of charging for them, we just give them to the first 50 people".
