Deadline to register to vote in Virginia primaries is May 21

Pennsylvania's redrawn congressional maps will be used for the first time Tuesday, when voters will cast ballots in the state's primary races. The results of these elections will determine the final candidates from each party for each position in the November 6 general elections.

Pennsylvania has almost one million more Democratic voters than Republicans, another advantage for Democratic candidates in a swing state that President Donald Trump won by just 45,000 votes in 2016. Another 61 have asked for the nonpartisan ballot, containing only the judge races, bringing the total of early votes to 1,275 out of more than 50,000 eligible.

Four candidates are running in the Republican Primary for lieutenant governor: Kathy Coder, a businesswoman from Allegheny County; Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan; Jeff Bartos, a real estate developer; and Peg Luksik, a pro-life activist from Cambria County. Scott Wagner of York; businessman and Army veteran Paul Mango; and attorney Laura Ellsworth, who are both from Allegheny County. Ken Krawchuk is running unopposed as the Libertarian candidate.

"It's important that these voters complete a new voter registration so they receive the correct ballot information before the election and so that they receive their mail ballot", said Registrar of Voters Michael Vu. The race has been sleepy to this point: Barely any outside money has crept into Pennsylvania to help a candidate after Pennsylvania saw a record-breaking $180 million U.S. Senate race in 2016. While both have announced their candidacy, the Green Party is still seeking ballot access in Pennsylvania, so it is unclear whether or not their names will be on the ballot.

Ten Democrats are vying to win the new heavily Democratic 5th District and succeed the now-resigned Republican Rep. Patrick Meehan in what had been viewed as one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country.

► This year's most crowded congressional race is where U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-7) is facing eight challengers from his Gwinnett and Forsyth county district, including from Shane Hazel from within his own party.

On the Republican side, Clint Owlett, Mark L. Hamilton and Dennis Weaver are campaigning for the GOP's sole nomination for that position.

If you live outside of the new 12th district, information about all of the May 15 primary elections can also be found here. You can find your polling place here if you are unsure.

"We have a slate with a lot of candidates with a lot of gusto who are newer to the system, and a lot of voters are reacting to that", he said.
