Father of tortured California kids claims 'I am not an animal'

Garbage and spoiled food were all around. Hurlbut said some areas of the home were impassable.

Animal feces and urine were found throughout the home. Police said Allen tortured the children for sadistic purposes.

Police in Fairfield north of San Francisco said Monday that the children range in age from 4 months to 12 years.

Sheriff's and prosecutors say the children were rescued from a filthy house in March and had suffered puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun.

Hurblut said he believed the children had been home-schooled, but couldn't say if authorities had been contacted in the past about their living conditions.

Rogers has 11 children, she said, KGO reported.

The child's mother, Ina Rogers, told reporters that social services interviewed the children three years ago when her mother "had mentioned something" that prompted a home visit. My husband has a lot of tattoos. But absolutely not, my husband is an unbelievable person. I am an unbelievable mother.

The investigation started on March 31 when police responded to a report of a missing 12-year old on the 2200 block of Fieldstone Ct.

After 10 children were found "living in squalor", their mother and her husband were arrested and the children were taken into protective custody, police said Monday.

Sharon Henry, chief deputy district attorney for Solano County, said she was "horrified by the statements that were given by these children".

Lt. Greg Hurlbut says an investigation revealed a lengthy period of "severe physical and emotional abuse".

Based on that information, an arrest warrant was issued for the father.

The father, Jonathan Allen, is now being held on more than $5 million bail, while his wife, and the mother of the children, Ina Rogers, is now free on bail.

In the interview with the outlet, the 29-year-old father claimed his kids had "no marks on them whatsoever" when they were removed from the home. She's scheduled to appear in court on the new charges Wednesday.

The Solano County District Attorney's Office described this type of crime of torture as inflicting pain with the intent to cause cruel and extreme pain and suffering, and in this instance, for a sadistic goal.

"So objects were obviously moved while conducting that search but that was not the basis for the charges regarding the environment the children were in though", Hurlbut said. The Solano County alternate public defender's office has just been appointed to Allen's case, Roberto Najera said.

The children's mother denied that she or her husband had abused their kids.

"They searched them head to toe". She says although she hasn't seen her grandchildren in four years, they were well cared for by their parents.

"She was pretty concerned, and she was like, you know, running around the neighborhood", Magney said.

Henry later said the District Attorney's Office is in the process of determining whether additional charges will be filed against Rogers and that the decision will be made within the next few days.
