Google Assistant Duplex Calls Will Likely a Robot Is Performed

Professor Abbass says AI Duplex collects human voice signatures that continue to train the robot and even its own voice seems to be a synthesis of one or more human voices.

"Today we announce Google Duplex, a new technology for conducting natural conversations to carry out "real world" tasks over the phone". Google CEO Sundar Pichai, at the I/O 2018 keynote showed off Duplex that sounds extremely human-like, making sounds like "uh" and "mmhmm" during phone call reservations. Google hopes this will transform how people book restaurant reservations or book hair appointments in the future. "Thanks to our progress in language understanding, you'll soon be able to have a natural back-and-forth conversation", with Assistant, Pichai said. Will the next generation exhale in exasperation when the person on the other end puts it on hold?

"This is what people often do when they are gathering their thoughts", Google engineers Yaniv Leviathan and Yossi Matias said in a Duplex blog post. Google has the upper hand in Smart Displays for many reasons. Over a call, it will become a flawless nightmare for many small businesses, and individuals who will not be able to make informed decisions based on who they are conversing with on the other end.

According to Google, Duplex is still under heavy development and will not be made available for public use just yet. Our interactions with them for now are over text, thus mitigating the potential for misuse.

App Time Limits allows users to see exactly how much time they spend in each app. Users are able to set time limits for using each app to a specified amount of time every day. Apart from the obvious concerns over the technology being negatively utilized for telemarketing and robocalls, the ethical issue became paramount.

Powered by a new technology we call Google Duplex, the Assistant can understand complex sentences, fast speech, and long remarks, so it can respond naturally in a phone conversation. "We are designing this feature with disclosure built in, and we'll make sure the system is appropriately identified".

"We're still developing this technology, and we want to work hard to get this right", he said.

Though not on the same scale as the invention of the smartphone, Duplex is still arguably the most forward-looking, and possibly the most life-altering technological achievement in recent times. Computers won't sound robotic and talk in a stilted manner like Siri forever. Although the company had something to say about a majority of its products, the updates around Android, Google Assistant and Google News, were without a doubt, the most exciting.
