HTC's next flagship unveiling happens on May 23

HTC has been eerily quiet when it comes to smartphones for the past several months, but we've known for quite a while that the company has a new flagship in the works.

This announcement is about HTC's next flagship smartphone, which would presumably be the HTC U12.

The company has posted the date on social media along with the text 'Coming Soon.

The phone was initially spotted with the code name "Imagine", and since that point a number of details have come out about what we can expect from the HTC U12 launch date.

In the tweet, HTC claims the phone is going to be "a phone that is more than the sum of its specs".

While the full official spec sheet of the HTC U12 remains to be seen, recent rumors indicated that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Initially spotted bearing the codename "Imagine", the smartphone is expected to pack a 6-inch LCD panel on the front with WQHD+ resolution, hinting at an 18:9 or 19:9 display resolution. There will be 12MP + 16MP dual camera setup on the rear and 8MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the front. This is a hybrid tray which means one SIM slot doubles as a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage.

Software is expected to be incrementally improved using a newer version of HTC's Edge Sense UI on top of Android Oreo.

The battery capacity of the device is said to be a 3420mAh unit, and it will be an IP68 certified smartphone.
