James Harden named finalist for 2018 NBA MVP

The other two finalists are Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James and New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis, both of whom had incredible seasons.

Most consider Houston Rockets guard James Harden to be the prohibitive favorite to win this season's MVP Award, but he'll have some stiff competition. He was named to the All-Star team in February for the third straight season.

The 25-year-old was the second leading scorer behind Harden with 28.1 points, fifth in rebounding (11.1) and first in blocks (2.6).

In a season that was anything but normal for the Cavaliers, James elevated his game to an unbelievable level.

A four-time victor of the award, James finished the regular season with averages of 27.5 points, 9.1 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game.

The four-time NBA MVP also posted a career-high 52 double-doubles (5th-most in NBA and 2nd-most in franchise history) and a career-high 18 triple-doubles (2nd in NBA). Harden and James are now playing in their conference finals.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers' Ben Simmons and Utah Jazz's Donovan Mitchell are finalists for the NBA Rookie of the Year award.

The Brow was an absolute monster on both ends of the court, evidenced by the fact that he also finished in the top three of the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

The three finalists for the individual awards were announced Wednesday.

The awards, judged by a panel of USA and Canadian sports journalists, will be announced on June 25.
