NSC Rejects Nawaz Sharif Statement About 2008 Mumbai Attack

That is the reason why the army demanded that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi convene a meeting of the National Security Council on Nawaz Sharif's comments; the NSC, which the army is a part of, met Monday's morning under Abbasi's chairmanship.

Pakistani newspaper Dawn published an interview with the country's former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, on Saturday that has stirred up a firestorm in the country. Other opposition parties, including the Pakistan People's Party, also criticized Sharif's comments.

"Militant organisations are active in Pakistan".

Ten Lashkar-e-Taiba militants killed 166 people and wounded dozens in Mumbai in November, 2008. It is absolutely unacceptable. [Russian] President Putin has said it.

Pakistan did not keep its end of the bargain and sent the case to court without really investigating the conspiracy that led to the attacks.

The NSC said that India on a number of occasions refused to extend cooperation.

"The participants unanimously rejected the allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions", it said. "Indian propaganda can not undermine our achievements", Abbasi said after the NSC meeting, in which Sharif's statement was dismissed as "incorrect and misleading".

Earlier on Sunday, without naming Nawaz directly, former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar had addressed the PML-N supremo's question: "Why can't we complete the [Mumbai attacks] trial?"

A series of military operations have displaced the Taliban from their former strongholds in the country's northwestern tribal districts, but sporadic attacks continue to happen.

The former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has compared the narratives of Afghanistan and Pakistan on global level as he strongly criticizes the foreign policy of the country which he believes has pushed the country towards isolation.

Operation Zarb-e-Azb was a joint military offensive conducted by the Pakistan Armed Forces against various militant group in 2014.

With Sharif's new stance, it should be clear that there is reason for the Pakistan court to drag its feet on the trial since the high-ups in Islamabad are aware that the non-state actors like Saeed acted with the full knowledge of the ISI and consequently of the Pakistan Government.

Pakistan is expected to go to the polls in the next few months.

It faces sanctions if it does not implement reforms by this summer.

A spokesman for Sharif said: "At the outset, statement of Nawaz Sharif has been grossly misinterpreted by the Indian media".

Maryam Nawaz lamented that her father, three time PM Nawaz Sharif, braved all threats and rejected foreign aid for May 28 nuclear tests but is now being termed traitor. "He hurt the national interest of Pakistan by violating his oath as an ex-prime minister and should be proceeded against for treason", Khan said at a news conference. "State of Pakistan [and] all its institutions stand together in the global fight against terrorism".

"Will speak the truth come what may", he said.

The spokesperson further added that party and its Quaid need no certificate from anybody on their commitment and capacity to preserve, protect and promote Pakistan's national security.
