Saturday will be my last game for Juventus: Gianluigi Buffon

The 40-year-old has just won his ninth Serie A title after playing 1,050 games and 17 years for the Italian champions, but has not indicated he will retire with offers on the table from elsewhere.

"Saturday will be my last match at Juventus and finishing my adventure like that, with two titles, with the support of (Juventus chairman) Andrea (Agnelli) and all the Bianconero people, will be the most handsome", Buffon told reporters.

Saturday, I will play a match and that is the only thing that's certain.

"Until 15 days ago, I was sure to stop playing, but I received some exciting proposals, both on and off the pitch".

"I'll let these three days pass and then I will make a definitive decision, in complete calm, and which will be one that calls to my personality and my nature".

Buffon set the world transfer record for a goalkeeper when swapping Parma for Juventus for £32.6m in 2001. He has ruled out moving to another Italian club or dropping down the divisions.

"I think that at my age you have to evaluate the situation a month, a week, at a time, ' he told Barcelona defender Gerard Pique in an interview with The Players" Tribune.

"If I feel as strong as I do at the age of 40, that is all thanks to Juventus and the mentality here". Italy's most capped player with 176, the 2006 World Cup victor could make his worldwide farewell on June 4 in a friendly against the Netherlands.

"Not to mention that in the Champions League, at the Bernabeu, he put in a fantastic performance".

'I'm very happy at the moment. I felt this love and fought to deserve it, and tried to do my best.

"If I decide to continue my on-pitch career, it will boil down to whether I still have the necessary drive and strength", he continued.

He also celebrated capturing Serie A and Coppa Italia glory last week - his seventh successive Scudetto and fourth consecutive Italian cup triumph.

It was the ninth Serie A title he won with Juventus. "Saturday will be my final match for Juventus", he said. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be his replacement for next season.

Buffon was also Italy captain until he retired from the national team in November when the Azzurri lost a World Cup playoff to Sweden.
