Shohei Ohtani Day-To-Day With Mild Ankle Sprain

"Shohei is a little bit sore".

Angels manager Mike Scioscia had said on Friday he did not know whether the injury would keep Ohtani from playing in the highly anticipated match-up against pitcher Tanaka.

Ohtani, 23, would face the 44-year-old Suzuki for the first time in his career.

April 27, 2018; Anaheim, CA, USA; Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani (17) breaks his bat and is thrown out at first base in the fourth inning of the game against the New York Yankees at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

With both stars heading to the majors from Japan, it was a matchup that many-including both players-wanted to see.

On the other side, Tanaka has had an up-and-down start to the season. Ohtani was going through treatment on his ankle after Friday's game and again on Saturday. "With that being said, that swing he threw on us last night was pretty impressive".

Ohtani was officially ruled out of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, though Scioscia was initially optimistic that Ohtani would still be able to start the second or third game of the series.

Asked if he could go on the disabled list, Scioscia said: "At this point, we haven't made any determination". Roberts said he felt Bellinger should've tried for a triple on a ball he hit into the alley at San Francisco.
