UFC 224 Post-Fight Press Conference

UFC 224 Post-Fight Press Conference

The odds flip ahead of her attempted third title defense in the main event of UFC 224 tonight at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. That shine went away in under a minute when Rousey returned to the Octagon.

Let's start with the two veteran legends, Belfort and Machida and move towards the main event.

In the middle of one of her first amateur fights, back in 2009 in Casper, Wyoming, Pennington sensed something had just been thrown into the cage. Lyoto Machida says, "the Dragon is alive!" Oddsmakers have Machida (23-8) as the favorite against Belfort (26-13).

There's a scenario where Pennington is able to draw early aggression from the champion, ride out the storm and come back to win the fight in the later rounds, but that's not something you want to depend on. I do give Machida a slight edge, but the tide could easily shift to either side when two legendary champions like these collide. "So, I told her this week that I was glad I could make her dreams come true".

Lineker doesn't get the credit that he deserves. It was the most hard in my career. Pennington's recovery from last year's ATV accident.

This will be an unofficial Main Event for the Brazilian fans as they get to see Vitor Belfort fight in the UFC for probably the last time as this is the final fight on his contract.

John Lineker and Brian Kelleher will have a bantamweight bout. Nunes will be more than happy to oblige. Even so, I think Kelleher is outclassed here.

UFC 224 was a top-to-bottom fantastic card filled with great fights and plenty of stoppages. Amanda Cooper is 4-3 with all three of her losses coming by way of submission.

Mackenzie Dern has star potential in the UFC, but this weekend has already cast a shadow of doubt over that. Pennington hasn't fought since November 2016 because of multiple injuries. Her mother has always wanted to go.

"I'm sure there are gay fighters in the UFC that are on the male side of roster at the moment". I like the champ to win. Both men are competent strikers with the power to knock out anyone while it will be interesting to see Souza's phenomenal Brazilian jiu-jitsu collides with Gastelum's wrestling.

Nunes will be risky early, as she always is.

If Kelvin can keep this fight standing, he can win. Certainly nothing like the last time this 135-pound title was on the line in this exact same building. Though Souza has the home crowd edge, I think Gastelum scores the upset. With this fight in Brazil, I think Pennington will be overwhelmed. I've got Nunes via stoppage.

Raquel Pennington is an underdog in the eyes of most. Raquel Pennington is a puncher with a strong chin. Her mother Rose, for instance, has never missed a bout.

All in all, I am going to predict that Amanda Nunes wins this fight.

Nunes is the overwhelming favorite at -1000.

As for the significance of the bout featuring two LGBTQ+ athletes, Pennington simply said she was proud. That is where the real value lies.
