Arjun Tendulkar named in U19 squad for Sri Lanka tour

We are happy on Arjun being selected in Indian under 19 team.

In January this year, Arjun represented a Cricket Club of India XI against a Hong Kong-based side at the Bradman Oval in Adelaide, where he made a 27-ball 48 as an opener apart from picking four wickets. "So a lot of boys ahead of Arjun are disqualified", the official said. He was also a part of the India Under-19 squad that took part in the Asia Cup in Malaysia a year ago.

Siddharth Desai (GCA): The 17-year old Gujarat allrounder, Siddarth Desai, has played 5 First-class matches and three List A matches for Gujarat. Arjun, however, could not find a place in the one-day squad which will play five matches against the Island nation.

Sachin, who remains the most revered sportsman in India, said his son's selection "was an important milestone in his cricketing life".

Arjun's inclusion was hailed by Sachin Tendulkar fans, but there were many who attributed his selection for India Under-19 to nepotism. He is a left-handed batsman unlike his father and he bowls medium paced.

India will travel to Sri Lanka in June and the one-day squad will be led by Aryan Juyal. "Anjali and I will always support Arjun in his choices and pray for his success", said Sachin exclusively to SportsTak.

Last year, Arjun was seen bowling at the India nets during the home series against New Zealand in Mumbai while a toe-crushing yorker that he sent down to Jonny Bairstow in the nets in England, had left the latter with an injury scare.

Coming to his cricketing exploits, he earned the call after his impressive performance for Mumbai U-19 team.

India Under-19 squad for four-day games in Sri Lanka: Anuj Rawat (c & wk, Delhi), Aryan Juyal (vc & wk, Uttar Pradesh), Atharva Taide (Vidarbha), Devdutt Padikkal (Karnataka), Yash Rathod (Vidarbha), Ayush Badoni (Delhi), Sameer Choudhary (Uttar Pradesh), Siddharth Desai (Gujarat), Harsh Tyagi (Delhi), YD Mangwani (Maharashtra), Arjun Tendulkar (Mumbai), Nehal Wadhera (Punjab), Akash Pande (Gujarat), Mohit Jangra (Uttar Pradesh), Pawan Shah (Maharashtra).

The youngster had impressed recently in the Cooch Behar Under-19 Trophy. "The selectors have given him a chance looking at his potential".

"Juyal is very young and has not graduated to first class level". The team will be coached by former India batsman WV Raman, with Rahul Dravid away for India A tour to England.
