Asus takes laptop multitasking to the next level with touchscreen trackpad

At a press conference at Computex in Taipei, Asus announce the ZenBook S (UX391), a new clamshell laptop with an ergonomic design and new fun colors. This has led ASUS to develop the ZenBook Pro 15 with ScreenPad, containing a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display that is more responsive and is adaptable to a variety of tasks, while retaining support for Microsoft Precision Touchpad (PTP) and up to four finger gestures. Rather than mimic Apple and put a Touch Bar clone above the keyboard, Asus has opted to swap out the traditional laptop trackpad for a second display. Let's take a look at these products from below. It sports a 15.6-inch 4K UHD NanoEdge PANTONE validated display with 100 per cent Adobe RGB color gamut, Delta-E of less than 2.0 color accuracy and Harmon Kardon certified audio system. This swaps out the GTX 1050Ti for a Max-Q-enabled GTX 1050 and locks in an Intel Core i7 CPU for its pre-orders and 16GB RAM. The ZenBook 15 Pro with ScreenPad also features a built-in fingerprint reader for fast, convenient and secure one-touch Windows Hello login.

The ZenBook Pro Series is a family of high-performance Windows 10 notebooks for professionals that introduces the futuristic new ScreenPad. This is something similar to the TouchBar on the MacBook Pro models. Asus says it will also work with some apps, including Microsoft Office, Spotify, and YouTube out of the box, with more coming in the future-an SDK will be made available sometime in Q3. You can see in the slide below the comparison of specs for the new models, which are the Zenbook Pro 15 (UX580) and Zenbook Pro 14 (UX480). There is Amazon Alexa integration and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity as well. It meets the ultra-demanding MIL-STD 810G military standard for reliability and durability. It features a spun-metal finish on the top surface and an ErgoLift hinge design.

Featuring up to an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, the Asus ZenBook S (UX391) will be available from 11 June at a MSRP of United States dollars 1,199 at Amazon, B & H, and other large retailers. The last, but not the least, is the Asus VivoBook Flip 14, a 360-degree foldable convertible that can be used in a variety of modes namely, stand, notebook, tent, and tablet. This device has an 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor paired with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. The only big difference is that it has Asus Pen stylus support and a heftier 1TB SSD storage option. It measures at just 12.9 mm in terms of thickness and a has a weight of approximately 1kg. The lightweight laptop also includes 5.9mm bezels around a 4K display. While Nvidia failed to reveal its next generation of graphics cards as many hoped and expected, other companies have displayed their own technical prowess. The ScreenPad's display is bright and colorful, and has a matte surface that provides just the right amount of friction.
