Meghan Markle attended her first royal engagement with the Queen on Thursday and spoke to well-wishers about life as a newly married woman.

Green is the colour adopted by survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire in London exactly a year ago and both royals, heads slightly bowed, observed a national silence in honour of the 71 victims.

Their first stop featured a performance by local schoolchildren in the town of Widnes, near Liverpool.
