Gunman wounds 2 at Walmart store before being fatally shot by bystander

While police were searching for the suspect, they believe the suspect shot a man while attempting to carjack him in the parking lot of the Walmart.

The incident began when police received a call about a drunk driver driving in the wrong direction near a Toyota dealership in Tumwater, just outside Olympia.

Dozens of cops were later seen outside the Walmart store.

"We are shocked that this happened on our property, and our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and affected". But we still don't know if they both fired or only one of them did.

A third victim, a 16-year-old girl was injured at another location, near Tumwater High School, but was not seriously hurt, police said.

Police said two people were shot. She described him as an area pastor who does have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Wohl said authorities do not yet know anything about the gunman and could not reveal any identifying details. The woman let her get in the vehicle, Wallner said.

Adams said he ran out of the store and into the parking lot toward his auto. He said he heard about 15 shots.

One of the wounded victims was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but their condition is not known.

The gunman was identified Monday as Tim O. Day 44 of McCleary Grays Harbor County according to the Thurston County Coroner’s Office

According to a GoFundMe page created for Kyle's father, the man is paralyzed from the neck down.

Witnesses told KOMO the suspect began shooting inside the store at about 5 p.m. and continued firing shots in the parking lot. Then she heard a popping sound from the other side of the store and someone yelling "run, run".

Wohl said Day approached a family and attempted to take their vehicle but was not successful. "(The suspect) hijacks a auto apparently to get here, then hijacks another vehicle. That caused the auto to spin around, Kyle said.

The civilian was the owner of the vehicle being carjacked, the Olympian reported, adding that he was being interviewed by police afterward.

Wohl said no other suspects were being sought.

Meanwhile, Day arrived at Walmart, entered the store to get ammunition, and exited again.

He then left his auto and attempted to carjack at least two other people, fired shots at the vehicles, and demanded owners abandon their cars. When the driver of that vehicle backed away, the 47-year-old Oakville man shot Day and he died at the scene. Washington State Patrol and Thurston County Sheriff trucks shuttled in and out of the Walmart lot.

While police responded to the possible DUI scene, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a carjacking and shots being fired at the Walmart less than a mile away.
