Jared Leto is reportedly in talks for Joker spin-off movie

When Jared Leto's unusual portrayal of the Joker made an appearance in Warner Bros' Suicide Squad movie, I think it's safe to say that many people were left a little disappointed and underwhelmed after all the hype around the actor's performance.

Plot details are unknown at this point, but executives at Warner Bros. apparently intend to expand on the world depicted in Suicide Squad.

Margot Robbie is getting her own Harley Quinn "girl gang" movie, and now Leto has his own Joker movie.

All of this news is rather confusing since it was previously announced that Warner Bros. and DC Films are working on another Joker movie with Tod Phillips directing and Martin Scorsese producing. Rather, Phillips' film would fall under a new origins banner that would be separate from the current cinematic DC universe.

One of the - many - overwhelming criticisms of the movie was Leto's lacklustre Joker, which, though little more than a glorified cameo, didn't quite measure up to the weird tales from the movie's set.

"Squad" directed by David Ayer, grossed $746 million but was panned by critics in large part because Leto's character was used to hype the film, but his final role was considered by many to be a glorified cameo. Leto's "Suicide Squad" incarnation was more cruel and self-assured, sporting slicked-back hair, face tattoos, and silver-capped fangs.

If any villain in the DC Universe deserves his own spin-off movie, it's the sadistic, laugh-riot that is the Joker.

However, without a writer on board at this time, it is unclear when the flick would begin shooting, or whether it would be shot before the Suicide Squad sequel, which is expected to go into production sometime in 2019.
