Phillie Phanatic's hot dog launch injures fan

The green-furred mascot accidentally sent a woman to the hospital Monday, after he hit her in the face by shooting a hot dog into the crowd at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park. She's okay, but her face is pretty messed up.

Unfortunately this time, Kathy McVay of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., was unable to catch or deflect the projectile because of an injured shoulder. They've offered McVay tickets to another game when she feels better and wants to return.

She was cleared, but sustained a small hematoma in her eye, an injury which needs to be iced every 20 minutes.

McVay was seated behind home plate when the Phanatic rolled onto the field on a mobile hot dog launcher, as he (it?) has been doing for over a decade. "And hard", she said. "It's going to go down the side of my face". "And hard", she told Sarah Bloomquist at ABC 6 News.

The errant hot dog was wrapped in duct tape (to keep it intact) and launched by the team's mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, as part of a routine seen at games for years.

McVay doesn't plan to take legal action against the Phillies and seems to be taking the injury with a good sense of humor.

After her ordeal, does she have some words of caution for her fellow baseball fans?

She also had a message for Phillies fans heading to games.

Per the report, the Phillies did reach out to McVay to apologize and "the Phanatic feels awful about what happened" (although we're not exactly sure how he explained that sentiment).

McVay realizes some might get a laugh at her expense out of the situation, and she understands.
