Redmond O’Neal Charged With Attempted Murder In Crime Spree

Redmond James O'Neal, who has a history of drug arrests dating to 2005, has been charged with attempted murder.

Redmond O'Neal leaves court on October 9, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, O'Neal allegedly committed a series of violent crimes in early May. Law enforcement said a man fitting O'Neal's description was walking near the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Speedway and Rose Avenues when O'Neal allegedly came across a man and stabbed him with a knife.

O'Neal is accused of stabbing a Venice man in the side on Monday and for allegedly stabbing another man numerous times in the nearby area later that night. The next day, O'Neal is alleged to have attacked another man who spoke to him outside a convenience store, punching him and throwing him to the ground.

One of the five alleged victims was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his face and upper body, while a second man was also seriously injured, police said.

'Initially, the victim thought that the suspect (O'Neal) had merely punched him in the back, ' LAPD said in a statement. On May 8, O'Neal was arrested on suspicion of using a knife while robbing a 7-Eleven store in Santa Monica, the newspaper reported.

According to the LAPD, 33-year-old Redmond has been connected to 5 violent incidents, and was charged Friday with attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, brandishing a knife and battery.

O'Neal has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the May 8 robbery. The son of late actress Farrah Fawcett and former boxer Ryan O'Neal was sentenced to three years in prison in July 2015 for violating his probation for a previous arrest for methamphetamine possession in 2008 and heroin in 2011.

"It's not the drugs that have been a problem, it's the psychological trauma of my entire life - my whole life experiences have affected me the most", O'Neal said. Redmond's mother, Farrah Fawcett, famous starring in the first season of Charlie's Angels on ABC, died in 2009. In 2016, he was released after nearly two years in prison.
