Sepp Blatter says Morocco 'logical' choice for 2026 World Cup

The "United" bid, that will see 60 of the tournament's games held in the USA, with Canada and Mexico getting 10 each, beat out the underdog campaign of Morocco to bring soccer's biggest show back to American soil.

US Soccer: "Hosting the 2026 Fifa World Cup is a rare and important moment to demonstrate that we are all truly united through sport". "Football today is the only victor".

The US hosted the World Cup previously in 1994 while Mexico hosted it in 1970 and 1986.

As nice as it is to travel and experience new countries, having the tournament come to our own backyard is a chance that simply can not be missed, especially considering it will be held in three separate countries for the first time in the history of the World Cup.

Canada staged the Women's World Cup in 2015.

After narrowly missing out for 2022, the most prestigious tournament in world soccer is coming back to the United States in 2026. The North American bid won 134 to 65, according to ESPN FC. That would bring each of FIFA's 211 members $50 million.

Morocco, on the other hand, promised a "European" World Cup in Africa, playing on the north African nation's proximity to Europe. It was a veiled threat to withhold USA support from countries opposing the bid. It will also be the first tournament to be hosted by three countries, Goal reported.

While Ghana's former FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has been handed a 90-day Fifa ban following corruption allegations, the country's government is on the verge of dissolving the association, with two GFA officials barred from travelling to attend the congress in Russian Federation. "Two years later, Federation Internationale de Football Association is alive and well, full of joy and passion and with a vision for its future", he told Fifa's congress in Moscow.

Morocco lost again with its fifth bid campaign in the past 30 years, including to the U.S. for the 1994 World Cup. The U.S. team did not qualify for this year's World Cup, which begins Thursday in Russian Federation.
