Serena Williams pulls out of Roland Garros due to injury

The superstar athlete scored her first major win since giving birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr.in September at the 2018 French Open and she looked damn good while doing it.

"You know the challenge that is upon you". Eventually, barely able to serve, she knew she had to call off her Grand Slam comeback.

Fans and pundits will question whether the 36-year-old tried to do too much in Paris. But she hid that bit of information - even from her coach - and a day after Williams struggled through a doubles loss with her sister, Venus.

"I sacrificed so much to be at this event".

"I gave up so much time with my daughter and my family and put everything on court for this moment", she said, and explained that physically she has actually been feeling great. I just started. So I'm just really trying to get my bearings and trying to feel out where I am and see where I can go.

"We're in this together, baby", he said, to which Williams replied: "No we're not; you're not going home to a screaming baby". "It all depends and Serena will have to decide for herself what she has to do when she goes to Wimbledon".

She was scheduled to play Sharapova in a fourth-round match at Roland Garros, the third match on Philippe-Chartier Court after the match between Rafael Nadal and Maximilian Marterer. This would have been their 22nd career meeting; Williams has won 19, including the past 18.

The last time they met was in 2016 in the quarter-finals of Australian Open; Serena won that match 6-4, 6-1.

Wimbledon champion Muguruza made it through after her opponent Lesia Tsurenko retired injured. And with their intense, nearly primeval competitive drive, they have blazed trails in women's tennis and forced the next generation of players to up their game.

We have learned that the tennis champion has made a decision to withdraw from the French Open!

Also Monday, No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki fell to No. 14 Daria Kasatkina of Russian Federation 7-6 (5), 6-3. The Round of 16 match is taking place at 5 a.m. E.T.

Williams suffered an injury to her right pectoral muscle during her third-round match against Julia Görges on Saturday. But Mouratoglou had no idea there was an issue.

"Despite the record that I have against her, I always look forward to coming out on the court and competing against the best player". She said that she continued to play in the doubles tournament yesterday so she could see how the injury would affect her in match play, as well as to try different ways to tape up the injury to see if that could help.

Fourth round losers in the men's and women's tournaments all receive 222,000 euros ($260,000), a fact not lost on Italy's Fabio Fognini whose five-set defeat to Marin Cilic occupied 3hr and 37min.
