USA has separated 2000 children from parents on Mexico border

Part of the recent outrage over government officials separating families of immigrants when they cross into the USA, a practice that had already been garnering vast criticism, stems from Sessions' use of the Bible to justify such inhumane actions.

Occupants at Casa Padre, an immigrant shelter for unaccompanied minors, in Brownsville, Texas, U.S., are seen in this photo provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, June 14, 2018. "And reuniting them with their families would reaffirm America's belief in & support for all parents who love their children", Clinton tweeted. The families were then sent to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing center for possible separation.

The United Methodist Church has joined the fight against Attorney General Jeff Sessions "zero tolerance" policy that forces families to be separated at the border, calling it "antithetical to the teachings of Christ".

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the current Archbishop of NY, also debunked the idea that family separation is supported by the Bible.

Immigration rights advocates in Arizona and around the country are continuing to speak out against the Department of Homeland Security's policy of separating migrant children from their parents. A fresh battle in Congress is brewing, in part over this issue.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request to provide a breakdown of the age of children separated from their parents and held in custody, but the official said they do not separate babies from adults.

The new figures are for people who tried to enter the US between official border crossings.

Oliver noted that quoting the Bible to justify a hateful policy is just as arbitrary as basing policy off of Green Eggs and Ham, claiming, "We must keep children in a box".

While facing mounting anger over the separation of migrant children from their parents at the U.S. border, Trump threw prospects of a swift fix into doubt Friday, saying he would not sign compromise immigration legislation ending the policy.

Beto O'Rourke on Sunday railed against the Trump administration separating children from parents at the border, but said responsibility for what is happening is on everyone.

The call was largely to defend the administration's decision to charge every adult caught crossing the border illegally with federal crimes, as opposed to referring those with children mainly to immigration courts, as previous administrations did.

There were an additional 38 minors separated at ports of entry from May up until June 6.

There were more than 50 at the official crossings in April and March each, according to the figures. The Bible citing "The Apostle Paul is clear in his letter to the Romans where he mentions that they must follow the laws of the government because God has established them for maintaining order ".
