World Cup Day-4 wrap up

World Cup Day-4 wrap up

Sunday's game in Rostov marks the Selecao's first game in the competition since their humiliating 7-1 semifinal defeat to Germany on home soil four years ago - an ordeal that rocked a soccer-mad nation to its core.

Marcelo captained Brazil on Sunday evening and former Arsenal boss, Wenger, believes Neymar's fame may damage the side's chances in Brazil.

The forward missed most of the second half of his first season with Paris Saint-Germain after fracturing his metatarsal in February.

Neymar's header - straight into the hands of Yann Sommer with minutes to go - summed up a Brazil performance lacking in cutting edge.

He will be in the starting line-up in Rostov-on-Don, for what will be his first game at a World Cup since being taken off with a fractured vertebra in Brazil's win against Colombia as host in the 2014 quarterfinals. "This kind of anxiety comes from the concern of playing a first game in a World Cup; even the coach is anxious".

After taking on Switzerland, tournament favourites Brazil go up against Costa Rica and Serbia in their other Group E fixtures.

"Neymar, we have to watch out for him, he might not be able to be fully fit but his recovery has been good", Tite said.

The Swiss also have pedigree in opening World Cup games, beating eventual champions Spain in their opener of the 2010 World Cup.

Neymar is the focal point of one of the most menacing attacks in the tournament, and lines up in a front four that includes Gabriel Jesus, Philippe Coutinho and Willian.

"They have two lines of defense and they do it very well".

Away from the football, Russian authorities said a taxi driver who ploughed into pedestrians on a pavement near Red Square in Moscow on Saturday, injuring at least seven people, had been suffering from exhaustion.

Here's the reaction from Mexico City...

We know that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are desperate to win it, but I look at Brazil - my favourites, of course - and see two players who can really go to the next level in Russian Federation.

"I won't think of that, I certainly don't care who the opponent will be", he said.

Perhaps that's still true, but statements were definitely made about both teams here.

Brazil's next game is on Friday against Costa Rica, who lost 1-0 to Serbia in their opener.
