Cheese's announces pay your age day on Friday, July 13

The stuffed toy bear company was holding a nationwide "pay-your-age" promotion today which resulted in hundreds of parents and kids heading to the store.

Build-A-Bear said in a statement that "based on the information available to us before the day began, we could not have predicted this unprecedented reaction to our "Pay Your Age Day" event".

Some people queued for over six hours with parents and children as young as seven-weeks-old outside the Hull Build-A-Bear shop at St Stephen's Shopping Centre. Then Chuck-E-Cheese offered a similar deal on Friday to try and capture some of the spark.

- Build-A-Bear is doing some damage control after closing lines on Thursday for the overwhelming response to its "Pay Your Age Day" promotion.

"With much higher than anticipated demand for its "Pay Your Age Day" promotion, Build-A-Bear has become a victim of its own success", Saunders wrote in a note on Thursday.

However, lines at retail stores across the country grew and were often hours long. The voucher is redeemable in-stores until August 31, 2018.
