Elon Musk launches baseless attack on Thai cave rescue diver

Billionaire Elon Musk has used social media to label a British diver who assisted with the Thai cave rescue a "pedo guy".

Elon Musk lashed out at Thai football team rescue diver Vern Unsworth on Twitter.

The freaky attack came after the rescue diver claimed that the mini-sub that Mr Musk built for the rescue and delivered to the site personally was just a PR stunt.

On top of pissing people off by donating to a Republican PAC, Elon Musk has also managed to offend a caver involved in rescuing the Thai soccer team he sent a team to help save.

He told CNN: 'It just had absolutely no chance of working.

"The submarine, I believe, was about 5 foot 6 long, rigid, so it wouldn't have gone round corners or round any obstacles". Later, he wrote that he would make his own video to prove that the submarine could have rescued the children, adding: "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it". "It wouldn't have made the first 50 metres of the cave".

He said he had not seen Unsworth - whom he dismissed as "this British expat guy who lives in Thailand" - during his brief guided tour of the cave system and suggested that, therefore, Unsworth had not actually participated in the rescue operation.

Amidst the horrorshow that is his Twitter account, it was revealed by public accountability organisation ProPublica that Musk donated $40,000 to a donated almost $40,000 to a conservative group focused on ensuring that Republicans control the House of Representatives - perhaps not great optics when you're trying to maintain a look as someone on the frontline of the battle against climate change. He then denied Unsworth's claim that Thai officials asked him to leave the cave site when he went there July 9, saying, "Thai navy seals escorted us in - total opposite of wanting us to leave".

Mr Musk didn't take the criticism lying down and launched a furious attack on the experienced diver after responding to a piece in the New York Times which called his effort "commendable".

Musk then criticised the leader of the rescue mission, saying he was "not the subject matter expert" and any goodwill towards Musk dried up. He also defended himself, tweeting out emails between himself and another one of the divers, Richard Stanton, as proof that his plan to use the mini-sub to help the boys was in fact a viable solution. "Thailand is so handsome", he wrote July 9.
