Ex-lawyer says Trump knew of 2016 meeting with Russians

Anthony Scaramucci said Sunday he accepts President Donald Trump "at his word" that he didn't know beforehand about a meeting between his oldest son and Russians promising dirt on campaign rival Hillary Clinton, and he doesn't understand why the president's former attorney, Michael Cohen, would have leaked something like that.

But according to CNN and NBC, Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, who is under investigation and has fallen out with the president, claims he was present when Donald Jr. told his father about the Russians' offer to meet, and that Trump approved of it.

Trump railed against special counsel Robert Mueller's examination of past tweets, and finally said, "I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don Jr".

"(Cohen) even retained Bill and Crooked Hillary's (Clinton) lawyer", Trump also wrote, referring to Davis.

"Let me see if I can make it about as clear as possible", said Giuliani.

Trump again criticized the Mueller investigation as a waste of time and money, after the New York Times reported that investigators were examining the president's messages on Twitter for possibly obstructing justice.

On Thursday night, Trump's current lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, called Cohen a "liar" in response to the report. The sources said Cohen does not have evidence, such as audio recordings, to corroborate his claim, but he is willing to attest to his account.

That tape is also the only one Cohen has with Trump himself on it. Giuliani said there are about 11 or 12 other Cohen tapes in which others discuss the president and members of his family.

As the two sides head toward a confrontation over a presidential interview, White House lawyer Emmet Flood and other Trump attorneys are strategizing about how to handle a subpoena from Mueller that would seek to compel Trump to testify.

The recording, as released by CNN, cuts off after an exchange about the hush payment that's being debated on both sides.

But Giuliani has said Trump's legal team is less enthusiastic because Mueller may lay a perjury trap, using anything Trump says that contradicts with another witness statement as a pretext for laying charges. His business ventures are the subject of considerable interest from federal investigators, The New York Times reported in May, while Giuliani was still defending him.

Trump Jr. famously replied: "I$3 f it's what you say I love it". Cohen has been hoping to use that information as a part of a deal from federal prosecutors who are investigating him. His attorney Lanny Davis declined to comment. "Our expert analysis is done until we get the raw copy, which we are seeking", Giuliani told Fox News.

Giuliani told CBS's "Face the Nation" that Trump's legal team is aware of 183 separate conversations that Cohen recorded. "You better buckle up buttercup because Mr. Trump's stupidity and disloyalty is about to catch up to him (and you)".
