Furious Elon Musk calls Thailand cave rescue diver a 'pedo'

Vern Unsworth - who was on the worldwide team of specialist cave divers at the scene - had told CNN that he thought the mini-submarine the Tesla chief sent to help with the rescue was a useless grab for attention.

British diver Vern Unsworth told CNN the craft had "absolutely no chance of working". In a recent CNN video news report, Unsworth had belittled Musk's plan to deploy a mini-submarine made by SpaceX engineers to rescue the children. "The submarine, I believe, was about 5ft 6in long, rigid, so it wouldn't have gone round corners or round any obstacles". "Just a PR stunt".

Unsworth has yet to respond to the Musk's tweet. "Only people in sight were the Thai navy/army guys, who were great". He wrote that he was escorted into the cave by Thai Navy SEALS - "total opposite of wanting us to leave".

As Ohlheiser wrote, Musk soon "started a Twitter argument over how much credit he deserved for offering to help save the youths", during which argument he showed off an email of himself corresponding with one of the British divers and incidentally claimed that the Thai official in charge of the rescue had not been in charge. Musk lashed out on Sunday, saying he would make a video proving that his "mini-sub" would have been successful and adding: "Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it".

Mr Unsworth was part of an global team of cave-diving experts who rescued the group of 12 teenage boys and their coach last week.

Doctors say the boys are in good health following a successful three-day operation which ended on July 10, when teams of Thai Navy SEALs and worldwide cave diving experts hauled the last five members of the team to safety.

Mr Unsworth is said to have been instrumental in the rescue of the boys.

"Just returned from Cave 3".

Meanwhile the two Australians who helped in the global rescue of the Wild Boars soccer team were given diplomatic immunity in the event anything went wrong during the treacherous rescue.

He also responded to one critic who had called the submarine idea "absurd" a week earlier, writing: "Stay tuned jackass".

Musk did call the other cave divers and rescuers "unsung heroes" in a different tweet.
