Heat Advisory in effect in New York City

Those heat warnings are already in place in the Upper Midwest, and that air is heading toward the Northeast this weekend.

The heat continues into the week, with temperatures reaching well into the 90s each day.

Long-term forecasts show that a brief cool down will happen by Saturday, however, there are even stronger signals that widespread summer heat will quickly move in again as we head toward the middle of July. The worst of the heat is likely to peak on Sunday afternoon. Sunday will be the apex of the heat - with temps possibly eclipsing 100 degrees - not factoring in the heat index. Heat index values as high as 105.

Heat index values well into the 100s will become common on Saturday, as the hottest temperatures and highest humidity will finally arrive.

The weather service advises drinking plenty of fluids, remaining in air-conditioned space, staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.

On all of those days, dew points of 60 or more and readings near 100 on the heat indices will make things just a touch more miserable.

Across the country, organizers protesting Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy, will need to watch out for heat as well. The index is expected to hit that level today, and climb even higher in northwest OH, according to the NWS.

Meteorologists say the intense heat will be caused by a ridge of high pressure - or a "heat dome". However, any storms look to stay mainly north and west of the I-95 corridor.

90s are in our forecast nearly off of next week with perhaps a slight cool down on Friday.

Make use of those air conditioners!

Thursday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms. There's going to be a chance for a thunderstorm on Friday morning with a warm front lifting north. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.

The normal high for much of July is around 90°.
