Lucas Torreira signs for Arsenal

Arsenal have completed the signing of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, the Serie A side have confirmed.

The 22-year-old played all five of Uruguay's World Cup matches in Russian Federation, as they crashed out in the quarter-finals following a 2-0 defeat by France.

The signing of midfielder Guendouzi, 19, follows the capture of Uruguay worldwide Lucas Torreira on Tuesday and becomes new manager Unai Emery's fifth addition of the summer.

The 19-year-old, who started his career in Paris St-Germain's academy, joined Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2014 and made his first-team debut aged 17 in 2016.

The club announced the signing on Tuesday afternoon, with Emery delighted to add Torreira to his squad.

Guendouzi said he is "immensely proud" to join Arsenal and said he has wanted to play for the club since he was a child.

Arsenal, meanwhile have released a short video with the short statement "Time For Torreira" who will have the Number 11 shirt vacated by Mesut Ozil, who will be wearing the "10" formerly of Jack Wilshere. "Sokratis and Lichtsteiner's age and experience balanced off with one (maybe two) exciting young players".

"I feel calm. I am used to coping with this kind of thing in the best possible way".

Emery will take charge of his first game since replacing Wenger when an Arsenal XI faces Boreham Wood in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

"I want to win titles, titles, titles". It's a very positive thing that people want to welcome me.

Sky sources understand the fee for Guendouzi will be in the region of £8m, but as a relative unknown on British shores, who is the new arrival and where could he fit at Arsenal?
