A long-awaited official report into flight MH370's disappearance gave no new information about why the Malaysian plane vanished, sparking anger and disappointment among relatives of those who were on board.

The co-pilot's flight simulator was seized from his home but investigators concluded there was nothing suspicious on it.

The official report released today on the MH370 by the Malaysian authorities said the change in flight path resulted, most likely, form manual inputs.

The Malaysian government's "final" report into what happened to doomed flight MH370 has been published.

Chief Investigator Kok Soo Chon told reporters in Kuala Lumpur on Monday that the plane's change in direction over the Indian Ocean could only be made under manual control, and the pilot had not shown worrying signs such as a history of psychiatric issues or financial stress.

The Malaysia Airlines jet vanished in March 2014 with 239 people - mostly from China - on board, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. We can conclude that MH370 had turned back and the turn back was not because of anomalies in the mechanical system.

The plane did not have a malfunction or defect that could explain the disappearance, he said.

All that has ever been found of the doomed jet were a few small pieces of debris that washed up in eastern Africa, including a flaperon that washed up on Reunion Island in June 2015.

"Those who gave the briefing from the ministry of transport were not able to give answers as they were not (the ones) who wrote the report".

The report however highlighted mistakes and protocols and guidelines that were not followed, the families told reporters after a briefing on the report. The next-of-kin of the passengers were briefed on the final report by investigators earlier on Monday. And a second, private search by USA company Ocean Infinity that finished earlier this year also found no sign of the wreckage.

'I have always said the most plausible scenario was murder-suicide and if this guy wanted to create the world's greatest mystery why wouldn't he have piloted the thing to the very end and gone further south?' Mr Abbott said.

"The answer can only be conclusive if the wreckage is found".

No sign of the jet was found in a 120,000-sq km (46,000-square mile) Indian Ocean search zone and the Australian-led hunt, the largest in aviation history, was suspended in January past year.

The four-year search for MH370 ended in May after the US-based technology firm Ocean Infinity failed to locate the plane while canvassing 125,000sq/km of the Indian Ocean.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed says he would consider resuming the search if new clues came to light.

"Therefore there can be no final report until MH370 is found and this can be prevented".

An Australian engineer, Peter McMahon claimed he found what appeared to be a plane wreckage on Google Earth. The only confirmed traces of the aircraft have been three wing fragments washed up along Indian Ocean coasts.

Others have suggested the captain was in a suicidal state and disabled communication before steering the plane into the ocean.

There have been a host of theories about why the plane disappeared, ranging from an accident to a hijacking or even a terror plot.
