Rockets reportedly 'determined' to sign Carmelo Anthony

Depleted by the defections of Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute in free agency, the Houston Rockets are "determined" to add Carmelo Anthony once the veteran forward secures his departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder, writes ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter).

The Houston Rockets see Carmelo Anthony of the Oklahoma City Thunder as the ideal replacement for the now-departed Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. He acknowledged that Ariza and Mbah a Moute were significant losses for the Rockets.

Many teams have been rumored to be interested, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets on top of the list.

"Both Trevor and Mbah a Moute were a big part of our team", Morey said.

The Rockets have shown interest in James Ennis, an athletic small forward who played for Rockets associate head coach Jeff Bzdelik at Memphis; Treveon Graham, a free agent who played sparingly at Charlotte last season; and James Nunnally, an outstanding shooter with defensive ability who played in Turkey.

Acquiring Anthony on a veteran's minimum contract is still a possibility, but one that will prove all that much more hard if they also plan to bring him off the bench - as two concessions are much more than he'd be willing to make.

Anthony opted into his $27.9 million contract for the 2018-19 season with the Thunder, but he's unlikely to stay due to the fact his scaled-back role with the team right now isn't what he wants. That decision will save OKC a bundle of cash-possibly over $100 million.

Paul agreed to a new four-year contract, worth a reported $160 million, with Houston when free agency began July 1.

Could Melo be headed to the Houston Rockets?

The Rockets finished the 2017-18 regular season with a 65-17 record.
