Scott Pruitt resigns from EPA

The official, describing Team Trump's feeling about Pruitt, wondered whether he would still hold his job as he could crop up in Democratic candidates' ads hitting the president's "swamp", CNN reported Wednesday.

For now, however, Trump was not giving any clues as to whose name he would send to the Senate as a permanent replacement for Pruitt.

President Donald Trump announced in a tweet that he had accepted Pruitt's resignation and that he thought Pruitt had done an "outstanding job". Acting EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler, the former coal lobbyist, will continue Pruitt's aggressive deregulatory efforts, likely without all of the noisy scandals that so bogged down the former Oklahoma attorney general. "Truly, your confidence in me has blessed me personally and enabled me to advance your agenda beyond what anyone anticipated at the beginning of your administration", Pruitt wrote in a letter posted by Fox News.

Mr Pruitt has become the focus of multiple investigations in recent months, including by his own agency's inspector general, two other independent federal agencies and by Congress itself.

Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute who has known Wheeler for years, told Breitbart News that he is up to the job, especially given his past work at the EPA. He rented an apartment linked to oil industry lobbyists in a pricey neighbourhood of the capital for a mere US$50 a night, a sum he only paid on nights he actually slept there.

Steve Milloy, who served on Trump's transition team at the EPA, told Breitbart News that Pruitt did a great job advancing the president's agenda of rolling back unsafe and damaging regulations President Barack Obama put in place, and Wheeler is just as committed as his former boss.

Pruitt also raised eyebrows by allegedly ordering his aides to search for a used mattress from the Trump International Hotel near the White House.

Mink said she had her son with her in part because he was being fussy, but in part because he wanted Pruitt to look into his eyes.

"Administrator Pruitt always welcomes input from Americans, whether they agree or disagree with the decisions being made at EPA", Ferguson said in a statement, according to USA Today.

Mr. Pruitt had been seen Wednesday at the White House celebrating Independence Day at an annual picnic for military families at the president's invitation.

Senator Kamala Harris, Democrat from California:"Just because Scott Pruitt resigned doesn't mean we've forgotten about the taxpayer funds he's misused or the damage he's done to our environment". That includes making sure the air is safe to breathe, our water is safe to drink and that pollutants, such as pesticides and toxic waste, aren't allowed to seep into the environment and impact our health.

Earlier this week, a woman confronted Pruitt at a Washington restaurant and urged him to "resign before your scandals push you out".
