Sharif, daughter to return home

He was arrested yesterday after he dramatically resurfaced in the garrison city of Rawalpindi to lead a rally of supporters.

On July 6, an accountability court sentenced former premier Nawaz Sharif to ten years in prison while Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to seven years.

"Workers from all across the country will reach the airport to welcome their leader", Mushahidullah Khan, a senator with Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, said.

The father-daughter duo, who are in London tending to Nawaz s wife, Kulsoom, who is being treated for cancer and is in a coma after suffering a heart attack last month, announced July 13 as the date for their return. The court also ordered confiscation of the four Avenfield apartments in London.

Last week, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court handed Sharif a 10-year jail term for assets and properties such as upscale flats in London.

Former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday his party was being bombarded with false allegations.

"After continued raids of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at his houses in Abbotabad, Mansehra and Haripur, Captain Safdar chose to surrender before NAB", NAB said.

She said, "People fly out of the country to evade punishment but we are returning to face it."Nawaz Sharif has set a new benchmark by offering his arrest", she said emphasising that their sacrifices will not go in vain as they will benefit the future generations".

After the verdict on Friday, Safdar said "justice has been massacred" and railed against the judiciary.

She has accused the military establishment and judiciary of targeting the Sharif family in a series of tweets since the verdict, Pakistan's first historic corruption conviction of a top politician. Abbasi told the media, "The court has sentenced Sharif to 10 years of imprisonment and fined him 8 million pounds".
