The Final Launch of SpaceX's Block 4 Falcon 9 Was Beautiful

The window is instantaneous, meaning teams have only one shot to launch the rocket topped with a Dragon spacecraft destined for a rendezvous with the International Space Station.

Standing for "Crew Interactive Mobile Companion", CIMON is a spherical bot that can see, hear, understand, speak and even fly. A former NASA astronaut helped arrange the java delivery for the space station's Serena Aunon-Chancellor, a coffee lover.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket with its Dragon capsule (which will deliver the goods to the ISS) launched at 5:42 a.m. ET amid good weather conditions and with no technical difficulties.

The Dragon spacecraft, propelled by the Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, is the 15th ISS cargo flight SpaceX has conducted for NASA's Commercial Resupply Services contract, the space agency said Friday.

NASA's commentator said, "We have ignition and liftoff!" It's slated to reach the station on Monday, July 2.

CIMON will verbally communicate step-by-step instructions to Mr. Gerst during three planned science experiments on the space station's European module. "We are very happy that CIMON will be the first artificial intelligence in space". This means that CIMON can "float" at the station, which is zooming for astronauts who call on its name and shout in response to questions.

It has been described as a "flying brain" by Manfred Jaumann, head of microgravity payloads at Airbus. "And while you're speaking, you can tell you're being understood", said Bret Greenstein with IBM. In fact, CIMON was programmed to have a specific ISTJ personality (introverted, sensing, thinking and judging), which enables it to be work-focused during experiments and more casual during downtime.

Dragon will fly with almost 6,000 pounds of cargo, supplies and science experiments as part of the 15th of 20 missions under a contract between SpaceX and NASA's Commercial Resupply Services program, also known as CRS-15.

JPL's ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS) will provide a new space-based measurement of how plants respond to changes in water availability.
