Wimbledon set for 'Manic Monday' as 4th round starts

Roger Federer cruised into yet another Wimbledon quarter-final with one of the most straightforward wins of his career on Monday.

Federer produced another near-faultless performance on Centre Court, outclassing France's Adrian Mannarino 6-0 7-5 6-4 to reach the last eight.

Federer over-hit a backhand and when his opponent courteously returned the ball, the eight-time Wimbledon champion elected to display his cricket skills, with a punched forward defence, which didn't go unnoticed by Wimbledon's social media accounts.

They clapped and yelled when Federer's drop volley capped a 16-minute tour de force of a first set in which he won 21 of the first 23 points.

"That's how important Wimbledon is to me and to us over here".

'In the third set he started to play better from the baseline and I had couple of mistakes with the game I lost. A tip of the hat to those who recall the boys' winners from 2001-2003 (Roman Valent, Todd Reid and Florin Mergea) and a standing ovation to anyone who knows how they are passing their time these days.

Del Potro was leading Simon two sets to one - 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 - when their fourth-round match was suspended under fading light.

It means Nadal is now in his 35th Grand Slam quarterfinal and following previous years of injuries and bad luck at SW19, the Spaniard was pleased to reach the last eight.

Shapovalov's Wimbledon ended in the second round.

Giorgi, 26, had failed to get past the third round of a major since the 2013 U.S. Open. Nadal then plays Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic. That's a Grand Slam semi-final from the US Open a few years ago.

The victor of that clash will take on either Japan's 24th seed Kei Nishikori or unseeded Ernests Gulbis. He hadn't been this far at the All England Club since 2011, losing to men ranked 100th or worse on four of his past five appearances.

Elsewhere in fourth round action, Dominika Cibulkova launched a scathing attack on Wimbledon's officials after a line call controversy marred her 6-4, 6-1 win against Taiwan's Hsieh Su-Wei.

"I didn't think that was ever going to happen, to be honest."

Kevin Anderson will face Roger Federer in the Wimbledon quarterfinals after Manic Monday produced a day of firsts for the South African.

So it's no wonder that Tsisipas, now 19 and one of the game's emerging stars, made a point of rewatching Federer's 2001 match against Sampras last week, the night before making his debut in Wimbledon's main draw.

Serena Williams is back in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the 13th time after beating Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina, 6-4, 6-2.
