Zsa Zsa, the world's ugliest dog, dies

Zsa Zsa, an English bulldog who won the title of "World's Ugliest Dog" in California last month, died Monday night in her sleep. He says she appeared fine the day before, so it was a shock.

Zsa Zsa won the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest, which takes place in the San Francisco Bay area, a little more than a week ago before she crossed the rainbow bridge.

Zsa Zsa went from enduring years living in a puppy mill to being adopted by a family and finally to winning fame and fans.

Zsa Zsa was known for her protruding teeth and especially long tongue.

English bulldogs typically live for about 9 years - so Zsa Zsa had a pretty good run.

Despite her appearance, she thought she was a star and was named after the Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor because, according to her owner, she would lie around 'like a handsome model'.

She took home first prize - a trophy, $1,500 ($AU2020) in prize winnings and the hearts of everyone.

"She is just so ugly, she's lovely", Brainard told The New York Times last month. Brainard said Zsa Zsa's death was "devastating" and that she and her family were still processing her passing, according to the Today show. "We were all saying our goodbyes".

Brainard and Zsa Zsa drove for 30 hours from their home in Anoka, Minn., to compete in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif.
