At least 4 dead in Canadian shooting

There has been a shooting in Fredericton, New Brunswick resulting in at least four deaths.

Fredericton Police confirmed on Twitter that "at least four people killed" in the incident.

Fredericton is in New Brunswick province, about 50 miles northeast of the USA border with Maine.

The Fredericton Firefighters Association was asking people on Facebook not to use social media to report on police locations.

The public should avoid the area, they said.

Police asked residents to stay in their homes and lock their doors.

"With the tempo, it might've been a gunshot", he told CBC.

He heard similar sounds about five minutes later, near his home, he said.

"Doors are locked and everybody's inside", he said.

At about 8.45am, police said that they had one suspect in custody.

A police tweet said: 'Fredericton Police are responding Brookside Drive area.

Four people have died in a shooting in Canada.
