James Bond Producers Interested In Idris Elba To Play 007

The paper quoted Broccoli as saying that "it's time" for a non-white actor to fill the role once Craig completes his final film in the series, which is scheduled for release in 2019.

Ever since Daniel Craig confirmed the upcoming movie will be his last time on Her Majesty's secret service everyone has been desperate to know who will take over.

"Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua told the Daily Star.

As for Elba's own ideas about who could be the next Bond, earlier this year he discussed the idea of a woman taking on the role with Variety. You need a guy with physically strong presence.

Fuqua probably isn't in any position for Broccoli to reveal any concrete information to him (especially if he blabs it all over the internet...), and it's likely that the conversation is still just a rumor, but it's also true that Elba probably would make a brilliant Bond.

For years, Idris Elba has been pushed to the front of the line by fans of the James Bond franchise as the next 007.

Elba has previously been mentioned as a possible 007, and was said to have been the favourite of then Sony chief Amy Pascal according to leaked documents from the Sony hack back in 2014.

In 2016, director Steven Spielberg told Express UK that he "would love to see a Bond of color", and that "Idris would be [his] first choice of Bond" to take over after Craig takes off his tux, sets down his briefcase, and hands in his various guns and gadgets. "Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?" he said.

He said to Vanity Fair: "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman".
