Khalil Mack Holdout "Mystifying To Many In The Organization"

Khalil Mack Holdout

"And if a team flashed a first-round pick at Oakland for the services of Mack, who wants an extension beyond the nearly $13.5 million he is scheduled to make this season under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and the two franchise tags that could await him in 2019 and 2020, the Raiders would be silly to not at least listen". This news, as it always does, caught the attention of Packers fans nationwide because of the relationship of the Raiders and Packers front office personnel coupled with the fact that the Packers have a tremendous amount of draft capital to offer in a potential trade involving Mack. Without Mack, the Raiders would fall even further down the league's bottom-third of defenses.

But this offseason it appears Mack is unhappy with his current contract. Mack, whose scheduled to make $13,849,000 under his fifth-year option this season, did not report to any of the offseason activities and has yet to report to training camp.

And the Raiders simply aren't willing to give him that kind of money.

Yes, it's true. Oakland may consider trading their best player.

Would you trade Ziggy Ansah and next year's first-round pick for the three-time Pro Bowler? From this standpoint, it is essential for the Raiders to bring back top value for Mack if they do in fact decide to trade him.

The Packers would seem to have the resources necessary to land an elite player like Mack. Maiocco said not only should they be, but that they should be reaching out to Oakland now to see what he'd cost.

"I think Nevada, and the state taxes, may be involved", Papa added.

For these reasons, I believe that the Packers should enter into serious negotiations with the Raiders if Mack is indeed on the trade block. On the field, new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine might see a big need at edge rusher, based on the health status of Clay Matthews and Nick Perry and the development of Kyler Fackrell, Vince Biegel, Reggie Gilbert, Chris Odom and Kendall Donnerson.
