France captain Lloris banned from driving for 20 months

Goalkeeper Lloris sustained a thigh problem during last month's 3-0 win at Manchester United, which meant he missed the subsequent 2-1 loss at Watford and France's worldwide commitments over the past week.

Lloris, who has endured a hard few weeks on a personal level after being fined £50,000 and receiving a 20-month driving ban following his pleading guilty to drink-driving, misses this weekend's game with a hamstring injury, while Alli suffered a knock during England's 2-1 defeat to Spain last weekend and misses out.

Tottenham Hotspur have been rocked by the news that both Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli will miss Saturday lunchtime's crunch clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are bidding for a fifth win on the bounce when they take on a depleted Spurs side at Wembley.

France's World Cup-winning captain Lloris is "expected to be out for several weeks" with a thigh injury according to the club, while manager Mauricio Pochettino is more hopeful Alli could return in time for the trip to Brighton on Sep 22.

The Argentine condemned Lloris' conduct but said that he has been a repentant figure after the 31-year-old player, who was arrested last month, was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £50,000 (Dh240,677). Then we're all humans and we can all make mistakes. We can all make a mistake.

"Of course we had a conversation and he explained all that happened", said Pochettino. The staff, the club, the fans, us, and he said "Any decision that you take gaffer, or the club, I think is fair".

"He is a man and he is very conscious about what happened, and of course you can not remove it, but he has the capacity to move on, learn and be focused on playing football", said Pochettino. Only we need to try, how he understands that it was a mistake.

Pochettino also insists he has no concerns about the form of Harry Kane, who has made a sluggish start to the season after his World Cup exertions. "I did. Rather than congratulate him, people need to thank me".

"Hopefully, it will be OK and he will be available again soon, like Dele".
